On Oct. 4, Nike announced a raffle for the self-lacing Mag sneakers seen in “Back to the Future Part II.” Far from an ordinary sneaker release, the futuristic footwear has been produced in extremely limited numbers — there are just 89 pairs in existence, with 84 of them destined to be raffled.
While the majority of sneakerheads will have to wait for the outcome of Nike’s The Draw to find out if they’re one of the chosen few, YouTuber and tech enthusiast Casey Neistat already had a chance to spend some time with the self-lacing Mag.
During a private meeting with Nike senior innovator Tiffany Beers, Neistat gets the rundown on the highly anticipated sneakers. “It started in 2005 … There was a petition, with like 30,000 people saying, ‘Make the “Back to the Future” shoe,'” Beers explains.
The real fun starts around the 5:20 mark, when Neistat finally has a chance to slip his feet inside the self-lacing shoes. “Oh, my God,” he says as the shoes begin to tighten.

During the week of Oct. 4, Nike invited the public to its NYC Nike+ Clubhouse for a chance to try on the sneakers. However, Neistat was among those selected to have a private session.
