Birkenstock 1774 has revealed the second part of a Los Angeles-inspired collection called Eternal Sunshine, paying homage to the city’s enduring “eclectic energy.” Releasing Aug. 1, the collection includes remodels of archival silhouettes with new fabrications and finishings.
Birkenstock’s official description of the collection reads, “The season’s materials are made with specialized techniques that contrast rustic with pop, modern with retro; reminiscing Southern California’s nostalgic attributes of the later 20th century.”
The August Edit is the second part of the Eternal Sunshine collection, following the June Edit which dropped last month.
As part of the August Edit, Birkenstock’s Madrid and Milano silhouettes will be offered in ’80s-influenced designs featuring glazed leather; meanwhile, the Arizona and Milano will also be available in stone-washed denim designed to soften with age.

Also included in the August Edit, the new Eliscu shoe adapts a clog silhouette into an at-home shoe that can also be worn outdoors. The Eliscu and the Sylt slide sandal feature a quilted design with contrast stitching à la denim workwear; they are offered in light and dark washed denim with a leather covered footbed. Birkenstock says of the shoes, “they represent a testament to L.A.’s laid-back nature and the lived-in comfort of the 90’s.”
While some criticize its design, Birkenstock remains a popular casual shoe option, even among celebrities. Earlier this year, Rose Byrne wore a pair from the brand’s collaboration with Christian Dior. Birkenstock has also partnered with luxury fashion house Manolo Blahnik in the past, earning the Collaboration of the Year award at the FNAAs in 2022.
