Andy Murray was defeated on his home turf in the longest match of his career.
The Scottish tennis star was upended by Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro at the Davis Cup semifinal on Saturday in Glasgow, floundering 6-4, 5-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Clocking in at five hours and seven minutes, the stunning match was the longest of world No. 2 Murray’s career.
Speaking to reporters after the match, del Potro praised Murray’s performance.
“I really enjoyed the match,” del Porto said. “He’s a ridiculous player, a fighter, a great champion. I was trying to find a way. I played good forehands and good serves, that was key.”
Murray had on his Under Armour Clutchfit Pursuit sneakers in a navy blue and red colorway.
The flexible footwear features two-way stretch synthetic material and a foam sole that supports stability. The tennis ace signed a four-year endorsement deal with Under Armour in late 2014.
Nike-sponsored del Potro had on the sportswear brand’s tennis shoes in colors that also matched his country’s flag: light blue and white.
