Its official colorway is “White/Black/True Red,” but there’s only one name this original Air Jordan 13 goes by: “He Got Game.” The shoe that was immortalized in Spike Lee’s classic basketball film in 1998 is back this summer for another run.
Last released in 2013, the iconic sneaker returns Aug. 25.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, “He Got Game,” starring Denzel Washington and a young Ray Allen, has gone down as one of the greatest basketball films of all time. The movie is filled with powerful scenes, and one of the most memorable — especially to any sneakerhead — is the segment where Washington’s character, Jake Shuttlesworth, goes into a sneaker shop to buy a pair of the new Air Jordans after being released from prison. A brilliant and natural bit of product placement from director Lee, who had a relationship with the Air Jordan franchise since appearing as Mars Blackmon in commercials in 1988, the scene cemented the white, black and red Air Jordan 13 in film history and sneaker culture forever.
With the original release of the shoe and the film that made it famous both celebrating their 20th anniversaries this year, a retro release in 2018 was a no-brainer for Jordan Brand. The colorway returns looking just like it did when Shuttlesworth laced them up in Coney Island in ’98, featuring a premium leather and suede upper in white and black, with red accents and green detailing for the signature holographic logo on the heel.
In other news, Jordan Brand recently unveiled a full lineup of releases for fall ‘18.
