Timberland enlisted the help of New York-based creative Nina Chanel Abney to reinvent its classic 6-inch boot. The collaboration is part of the Future73 initiative, a collective of six creatives and designers who were invited to reimagine the silhouette and ready-to-wear pieces to complement their creation.
In celebration of Timberland‘s 50th anniversary, Abney redesigned the boot in her own playful style. The uppers of the footwear are crafted of smooth brown leather that features textural suede and camouflage overlays, accompanied by scrambled lettering reading “Timberland.”
The heel of each boot is embossed with the brand’s instantly recognizable tree emblem along with standard branding on the boot’s tongues. The footwear silhouette is all sat atop durable white rubber outsoles featuring thick tread and a non-slip design made to weather any surface. Additionally, the boot includes rich brown lacing
One of Timberland’s most iconic silhouettes, the 6-inch boot was first introduced in 1973. The style is made of durable Nubuck leather that can withstand harsh weather. Since its release, the footwear has become synonymous with the brand’s success.
Abney aims to highlight Black culture and explores themes of homophobia, race, gender, and pop culture in her work. The artist is best known for her large-scale public murals featuring bright colors and bold compositions.
Timberland x Nina Chanel Abney 6-inch boot will launch on Sept. 19 via the brand’s website and at select retailers.
