MSCHF Responds to Timberland’s ‘The Original’ Post After Releasing Similar Construction Boots

In the wake of MSCHF releasing a pair of boots inspired by Timberland‘s signature 6-inch boots last week, the two brands have seemingly exchanged messages on social media.

On Saturday, the Timberland brand’s official Instagram account posted a photo of their original boot over text that reads “The Original.”

“A reminder,” the brand wrote as a caption.

While the post did not tag any other brands, on Monday, MSCHF posted a version of the same graphic. In it, they featured their newly revealed 2×4 which borrows heavily from the design of Timberland’s boot.

The 2×4 was pictured, overlaid with text that reads “Also Original.” The post’s caption directed users to “Swipe to the end.”

After a series of lifestyle images showing people wearing the 2×4 in the original Wheat, all-black and dipped color variations, the brand included a screenshot of Timberland’s post.

MSCHF, which has gone viral before with designs like its Big Red Boot, first unveiled the 2×4 earlier this month. That boot notably features an upper that is composed of gum sole, including the pronounced tread. After images were released on social, the label released a campaign featuring Spike Lee shot by his daughter Satchel Lee.

The MSCHF Timberland-inspired 2×4 will go on sale March 19 at 2 p.m. ET for $400. The style resembles Timberland’s 6-inch boots, which were created in the 1970s with a premium waterproof leather outer, seam-sealed construction and padded collar.

MSCHF is not the only footwear brand taking inspiration from Timberland these days.

On Friday, Esenes Worldwide announced the pre-sale of their latest shoe which combines the classic Timberland boot with the Margiela Tabi. A prototype of that shoe was first seen on Erykah Badu but now it is being made available for purchase by the masses. Dubbed the RicePaddyTabi, the boot is available for pre-order now for $250.
