Brands still seem to be betting on boat shoes.
The latest model to hit the market comes from American footwear brand G.H. Bass and French swimwear brand Vilebrequin.
The new collaboration features an exclusive men’s silhouette, the Hampton Boater in Navy. Handsewn in nubuck leather with the signature Vilebrequin turtle embossed throughout, the Boater features a full leather lining, shaped arch support, Vibram rubber soles for enhanced traction, and insoles with 5mm EVA foam for comfort.
This launch comes as brands like Sebago and Sperry double down on the boat shoe with recent projects. In fact, at Sebago, almost 90 percent of its sales in the spring/summer seasons came from boat shoes, the company’s global brand manager and creative director Marco Tamponi told FN in an interview in December.
“It’s clear that the next trend seems to be the boat shoe, thanks to some of the most important luxury brands who have shown them in recent collections, including Miu Miu and many others,” Tamponi said at the time. “I mean, the Miu Miu boat shoe is clearly inspired by a Sebago shape from the ‘80s, but we are very happy to inspire them, and we are starting to see the trends translating into sales in our Docksides’ business.”
As for Sperry, it has teamed up with Nordstrom this month to highlight its boat shoe offering as part of the retailer’s Make Room for Shoes program. For the month of February, the two companies have come together on limited-edition capsule collection of footwear designed specifically for the retailer.
The new G.H. Bass x Vilebrequin Hampton Boater shoe, which retails for $320, is now available in sizes 39 through 46 exclusively at Vilebrequin.com and Vilebrequin retail stores.
