Clarks Originals will be celebrating its second annual Wallabee Day on April 26, honoring its iconic shoe with special programs and products. The limited-edition Wallabee Day Pack, available now, reimagines the classic Originals style and pays homage to the marsupial from which its name derives.
April 26 has been deemed Wallabee Day because of an occurrence on April 26, 1971, when a shipment of 4,176 pairs of Wallabees sparked chaos at JFK Airport in New York.
The Wallabee Day Pack includes three suede colorways: Green for men, Bright Pink for women, and a Sand option for both men and women. Grounded by Vibram soles, the shoes feature textured laces, a kangaroo-shaped fob, and an embossed Wallabee stamp on the heel.
Among many plans for the month of April celebrating the “blank canvas” shoe, celebrations this year also include the release of a film “Wallabees: Worn by the World” on Wallabee Day. On April 5, the first collaboration between Clarks Originals and Needles was released.
Clarks Originals is celebrating Wallabee Day around the world. In the U.S., the brand is partnering with Concepts, a Boston-based retailer, and local artist Jordan Barros, who will lend his distinctive style to the Wallabee. Barros will customize a limited number of Wallabees for customers on April 26 at the Concepts store at 18 Newbury Street in Boston.
In the U.K., artist Teoni is slated to take over the Clarks Originals store at 32 Berwick Street in London, where her custom artwork will transform the interior and exterior of the location. Her design will include a vinyl wrap on the store header in addition to drawings displayed on the outdoor glass, which include images of her father wearing Clarks. This incorporation represents the brand’s family-like roots in Jamaican culture.
Clarks Originals celebrated Wallabee Day for the first time in 2024.
The Wallabee has indeed proved itself to be a “blank canvas.” In 2024, for example, Clarks’ Originals third collaboration with Neighborhood featured the Wallabee and the Desert Boot, applying prominent stitching to the styles. Supreme also reinterpreted the Wallabee with patent leather in 2024.
