Andrew Scott was the embodiment of relaxed elegance on Wednesday. The actor wore a pair of classic slip on loafers to the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s “Ripley” held at The Egyptian Theatre Hollywood.
The Irish actor often errs on the side of dapper for his style. Working with stylist Warren Alfie Baker for footwear that often means sharp shoes like leather lace-up brogues or even monk strap shoes. He’s also been known to pull a pair of pale green boots when the time called for it.
Those boots, worn to the Los Angeles screening of “All of Us Strangers” came from a collaborative collection between Baker and Scarosso.
For the premiere of “Ripley,” Scott was joined on the carpet by cast and crew like Dakota Fanning, Maurizio Lombardi, Eliot Sumner, Steven Zaillian, Clayton Townsend and more.
Scott’s shoe is a menswear staple. He wore a classic men’s slip-on loafer with no socks. The leather shoe features two tassels sitting atop the kiltie, the piece of fringe-like leather on the top of the shoe.
The shoe also features brogue detailing on the toe and throughout the body. The combination of the kiltie, tassels, brogue dealing and the low cut of the top of the shoe is distinct.
Though they may be common now, tassel loafers were created in post-World War II America. They were reportedly created by Alden Shoe Company. They were first produced in 1952 and became affiliated with a sort of preppy, country club lifestyle. Tasseled loafers were stocked at Brooks Brothers as early as 1957. They have long been viewed as a sort of casual but distinctive men’s shoe.
