How are you leading differently in the #MeToo era?
“At DSW, we’ve been working to build trust and call on our leaders to embrace difficult conversations. I’m committed to creating safe working environments for our associates, and trying to call out the casual ways we can inadvertently disenfranchise others with language — words alone have the power to make people feel safe, or not.”
What’s the biggest challenge you face as a woman, and how have you overcome it?
“Demonstrating traditionally feminine traits like empathy, warmth and compassion can sometimes read like you’re soft on business skills. There have been a few times in my career, where I’ve had to challenge misperceptions. But, retail’s about people. As a leader I’ve learned if you take care of people, they take care of you. That holds true in relationships with customers, with associates and with vendors.”
More women should… ”Support other women. Women can be hard each other, and we’re never going to get where we need to go until we lift each other up. As a mother of six, I’m raising my kids to understand that our achievement isn’t limited
