The 7th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television was held on Dec. 9 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The Critics Choice Association celebrated a stacked list of honorees this year including Regina King with the Trailblazer Award, Tyler Perry was honored with the Icon Award, while Cynthia Erivo received the Actress Award – Film for her performance in Universal Pictures’ “Wicked.”
John David Washington accepted the Film Actor Award for his work in Netflix’s “The Piano Lesson,”Jharrel Jerome accepted The Breakthrough Actor Award, while Michael Rainey Jr. was honored with the Rising Star Award – Series for his performance in STARZ’s “Power Book II: Ghost.”
Actor and comedian Jay Pharoah, known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and his recent comedy special “Jared,” hosted this year’s event, which highlighted standout performances and work from the Black entertainment community. Such an impactful night meant that the stars arrived dressed to the nines and paired their ensembles with equally impressive shoes.
