In a moment where trends are more ephemeral than ever, Milan’s top talents pushed themselves to experiment with radical new ideas to varying levels of success.
Here are the main messages spotted on runways and at the footwear presentations from Italy’s shoe capital.
1. Sports Heroes
Athletic elements were fused with luxury craftsmanship. Key features included sports soles, running shoe detailing and subverting the causal (tube socks, pool slides) into more elevated territory.
2. Statement Soles
The new view on the runway was mighty lofty. Towering wedges, clompy platforms and foam flatforms were offered for day and night, ranging from Seventies sophisticate to ’90s club kid.

3. That’s a Stretch
High-tech knit fabrications ensured a glove-like fit on uppers. Elastic also made a comeback.
4. All Glitz
It wouldn’t be Italy without heaps of glam embellishment. It took all forms: crystal, glitter, sequins, studding, tasseling and even fine jewels.
5. Mules Per Hour
The most pervasive trend from streets to runways is the backless shoe. No silhouette or heel height was off limits here from the slip-on style.
