Are torturous runway heels a thing of the past? If this season was any indication, all signs point to yes. Designers embraced a more grounded look this season — and quite literally so, with chic evening flats and comfort-driven sandals dominating the scene.
At Lanvin, Bouchra Jarrar’s debut collection mixed house signatures with a new, modern spin. Especially so were the embellished slide sandals, suggesting a new approach to evening wear. A similar message was seen at Oscar de la Renta and Monique Lhuillier, who both showed embellished sandals — like jewelry for your feet.
Comfort-focused styles also made several appearances. At Dries Van Noten, the shoes were reminiscent of the classic Dr. Scholl’s slides. Edeline Lee and Versace showed sportier Teva-style sandals with Velcro straps and extra-padded flatform soles. Even Prada got in on the game with colorful jelly sandals. Perfect for glamping.
