Hedi Slimane’s last collection for Saint Laurent stayed true to his roots. Known for his refined rock ‘n’ roll sensibility, Slimane featured his signature tailored boots and luxe sneakers in the fall ’16 men’s collection. We can already see them on Harry Styles.
The shoes made their debut at the label’s runway show in Los Angeles. The latest assortment was especially boot heavy, with Chelsea boots — both heeled and flat — done in a variety of shiny metallics. Texture play was also a huge focus for the season with various velvets, embossing and patents making an appearance.
Sneakers were kept classic in neutral suedes, or done in a more experimental fashion with glittered palm trees and cheetah-print waves. Talk about California dreaming.
With Saint Laurent’s new creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, slated to debut his first show in October, the designer will have huge — no pun intended — shoes to fill. The label’s accessories assortment is booming, so the pressure to deliver is on.
