Queen Camilla kept it very demure and very mindful while visiting The Westminster Abbey Sacristy project on Thursday. The Sacristy is a new building at Westminster Abbey, set to be named The King Charles III Sacristy.

Camilla is a patron of the to-be-launched institution. For her viewing of the construction, Camilla was the picture of ladylike elegance in a powder blue jacket and skirt set with a pair of classic pumps.

Camilla’s shoe was from Chanel. It is one of the staple’s of the brand’s footwear. The style features a largely beige upper and a black cap toe. Designed by Mademoiselle Coco Chanel herself, the choice was intended to both extend the leg with the nude colored section as well as make the foot appear smaller with the black cap toe.

The style sits atop a short block heel of about three inches. This provides additional height while also remaining relatively comfortable for the wearer, allowing for mostly full mobility. At the base of the block heel the shoe includes the interlocking C logo. The beige section of the upper is made of suede while the cap toe is satin.

The Queen Consort has worn the shoes, which are currently only available for purchase at resale sites, for more than a decade. While she likely enjoys the versatility of the style, some speculate that Chanel also holds sentimental value for her. In 2018, designer Jayson Brundson revealed that Princess Diana refused to wear Chanel as far back as 1996 because of what it could mean. Brundson had dressed Diana for an event that year.

“I found a pair of Chanel shoes, and I said, ‘Well, these would look great with the Versace,’ and she said, ‘No, I can’t wear linked Cs, the double C,’” Brundson told Harper’s Bazaar Australia for the May 2018 issue. “So I asked why, and she said, ‘It’s Camilla and Charles.’”

So there is a chance that, for Camilla, the shoes are a token of the relationship.
