What would Mr. de la Renta think? On Sept. 12, Oscar de la Renta showed an all-flats lineup for spring ’17 at New York Fashion Week. It represented a sea change (and perhaps a cleaning of the slate) for the house, which recently announced that Monse’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia would be taking the reigns next season.

Sweet and light dresses, in eyelets or gauzy knits, were paired with one of three similar strappy pancake sandals, dubbed the Corrine, Cassidy or Catrina. They gave looks (very few of them evening wear) a new sense of ease and youth. After all, with dresses this refined, a dainty stiletto would have been staid.
