The Noel Shoe Museum toasted the importance of footwear with its second annual gala. Hosted by founder Vanessa Noel in New York City, the occasion drew attendees including Fern Mallis, Lauren Ezersky and Robert Verdi to celebrate the history and relatability of shoes.
“In every journey, there’s a common thread that binds us all: the shoes we wear,” Mallis said in her opening remarks, which even included quotes from footwear stars. “‘Never underestimate the power of a shoe,’ said Giuseppe Zanotti.”
During the event, guests mingled during the cocktail hour, where painted live performers mimicked the silhouettes of high heels — a “living shoe” concept by artist Johannes Stoetter. The following dinner featured a display of shoes that will be included in the museum’s archives, including Manolo Blahnik sandals, exclusive Harlem Globetrotters sneakers and metallic gold Versace sneakers donated by gala partner Wegmans. The night also featured an appearance from Mayor Eric Adams’ brother, Bernard Adams — who presented a set of the mayor’s leather brogues onstage as an addition to the museum.

“They’re not sexy, but I can tell you one thing: these shoes have a lot of mileage because the mayor works hard,” Bernard said. “If you know anything about the mayor, you know he’s up early and he goes to bed real late. They say he’s a nightlife man — that’s true — but he’s out working overtime.”
The evening was complete with dessert and bingo, as well as an afterparty at the OhLaLa club inside Omar Hernandez’s restaurant, La Goulue, on the Upper East Side.
The Noel Shoe Museum showcases how shoes have impacted international culture over time. The institution’s ongoing archive includes heels, sneakers and boots ranging from the 17th century to the present day.
