The Met Gala theme for 2025 has officially been announced. Today, the Metropolitan Museum of Art declared the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition to be “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which will explore the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th-century through present day.

Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” this marks the first Costume Institute exhibition since “Men in Skirts” in 2003 that will focus exclusively on menswear.

And on the first Monday in May, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala, alongside honorary chair LeBron James.

For Williams, this marks his second time co-chairing the event as he previously assumed the role in 2017 for “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” The current men’s creative director for Louis Vuitton is no stranger to the shoe industry either. Williams recently collaborated with Timberland for a pair of boots as part of the fall ’24 Louis Vuitton collection.

It’ll be interesting to see what footwear James will wear on the Met Gala red carpet having his own signature line with Nike as well.

A$AP Rocky has been a fashion and footwear fixture, too. Most recently, the rapper partnered with Puma and has released multiple shoe collabs, including Rocky’s Inhale sneakers and the new A$AP Rocky x Puma Mostro 3D.

As for Domingo — who attended his first Met Gala earlier this year — and Hamilton, who made his first met Gala appearance in 2015, the two continue to make best-dressed lists season after season and are fitting chairs for fashion’s biggest night.

While you wait, take a look at the Met Gala themes through the years.
