Demna Gvalsia is determined to make it hip to be square.
For spring ’17, pulsing Balenciaga‘s creative director sent out a extremely right-angled array of slouched boots and pumps on Sunday at Paris Fashion Week. And in the process he officially kicked off the return of the duck-bill toe.
Sharp angles prevailed in the collection, from linebacker shoulder trench coats and blouses, to even the heels on said boots, which jutted out as oversize rectangular blocks. The severe point was furthered in stark white and bourgeois shades of chestnut brown and cordovan.
Elsewhere, Gvalsia continued his signature bad-taste-made-cool athleisure style with shiny spandex legging cuissardes in wonderfully tacky brights.
