Altuzarra Resort 2016: Shoe Highlights

Though small in its offering, Joseph Altuzarra‘s resort ’16 presentation in New York featured thoughtful footwear experimentation—a rarity for the resort season, which oftentimes features a single shoe style repeated over and over again.

While Altuzarra only showed three different footwear styles, one of which was a barely-there strappy sandal, the leading two styles indeed caught the eye. Slingback pumps were given a touch of whimsy with feathered appliqué work, done in either stiletto or kitten heel heights. The style was presented in two tri-colored versions including grey, white and red, as well as yellow, red and black.

The shoe had an especially comical effect when pair with the designer’s floor-length dresses, as billowing feathers poked out at the hems with each step. It was as though a monster was aching to be released throughout Altuzarra’s collection, which can certainly be true during any creative mind’s mad-mayhem design process.

Compared to his fall ’15 ready-to-wear presentation, which combined dominatrix-style combat boots with Victorian ruffling, the feathered styles were also a refreshing switch-up. With its aim towards vacation attire or glamorous yacht parties in St. Barth’s, resort collections themselves pride themselves on being slightly impractical and unnecessary—why shouldn’t the shoes match?
