Alexander Wang continued his punk footwear message for resort ’16 following the extreme platforms he presented in his fall runway show in New York.
Though the styles were equally chunky for resort, Wang pared down the flatform look — a couple of inches, to be exact — and offered single-soled sandals finished with wooden block heels, while metal buckles and leather strapping were still very much present throughout the collection.
The designer stuck to a mostly black-and-white color palette, as he often does, but he did add a pop of beige leather here and there, as an accent strap or an allover suede treatment.
Compared with the resort shoes for Balenciaga, the footwear here was less experimental and more of a through line from his past season. With Wang managing two such large brands, you have to wonder if one label is sucking up the lion’s share of his creativity to the detriment of the other. Then again, resort collections are typically smaller for the in-between season — and to Wang’s advantage, it may be best to save his energy for spring ’16.
