Top Designers Sketch Their Ideal Shoe For The 2016 Met Gala

The 2016 Met Gala is just hours away — and we can’t wait to see the shoes that walk down the red carpet. Often dubbed “The Oscars Of Fashion,” the event brings out the who’s who of the industry, and a slew of celebrities, often on the arms of top name designers.

While many in attendance pride themselves on adhering to the theme — this year, it’s “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” — which has opened up a whole lot of questions and speculation on just what we will see draped on the bodies of the A-listers as they arrive.

In our opinion, the theme offers more than just a little room for imagination, especially when it comes to shoes.

So we asked top designers to sketch their dream styles for tonight’s gala, and they rose to our challenge with eye-catching, innovative drawings. Take a look at their creations below and read what they have to say about the show-stopping styles.

Brian Atwood
“I have a “thing” for feathers and studs, and by all means, they look best when applied together. The contrast between a soft texture on a metallic surface is the perfect balance. Elegant, yet futuristic.”

Bruno Frisoni for Roger Vivier
“When thinking about technology, the one material and color that comes to mind is silver. I like these “Anjelica” platform sandals created in a floral engraved leather as it reminds me of a feminine metallic armor.”

Paul Andrew
“This shoe is all about the fusion of modern technology and hand-craftsmanship — it really embodies the theme of Manus x Machina. Each flower is hand cut and assembled from four different pieces, but contrasted with the metallic silver specchio and the lucite heel, the shoe has a very modern feel.”
