Gianvito Rossi Fall ’16 Shoe Presentation At MFW

The mood: New military.

The shoes: “I wanted to create styles which put forth a strong message of power for women,” said Gianvito Rossi of a series of British and French army uniform-inspired velvet booties piped in regiment red with buttons. The button work continued, going in a more playful direction with charming satin platforms. “This chunky look we see everywhere can be not so chic,” he noted.

“I am very careful to make my shapes still super refined when I explore new proportions.” Elsewhere, gold featured heaving on boots of every height. His only misstep? Furry hidden wedge winter boots were a backtrack, trend wise, and too soon.

The verdict: A forceful collection in spirit, yes, but missing a touch of Rossi’s usual subtlety.
