California skate brand Vans, which is aiming to build its presence in the Big Apple, plans to partner with local independent streetwear label Only NY.
The two will create a small line that “embraces signature skate style and passion for the outdoors,” according to a joint statement.
The collection includes Vans’ Pro Skate footwear, apparel and accessories.
The collaboration is part of the VF Corp.-owned brand’s push to create demand for cool products in trendy markets.
Vans president Kevin Bailey told Footwear News earlier this year that the company looks “at geographic expansion as a key attribute of growth for the brand. Even here in the U.S., we have underpenetrated markets. We weren’t in New York in a meaningful way up until a few years ago. If Vans was to crack the code of not being a Southern California-only company, we had to crack New York.”
The new collaboration, available now at Vans.com, pulls inspiration from New York City life, art, fishing and skateboarding.
The footwear, in particular, comes in two colorways of its performance skate line, the Old Skool Pro, in dress blue suede and white leather.
The Vans X Only NY Old Skool Pro, which includes high-impact cushioning, features contrasting side stripes and a logo of the partnership on the sockliner.
