Dr. Martens Gets an Anime Makeover From Atmos With New Velvet Boots

The future is here — and it’s anime-inspired. Dr. Martens has joined forces with Japanese streetwear retailer Atmos on a brand-new boot, which drops on Aug. 21.
The Dr. Martens x Atmos style, dubbed the Tarik, revamps the British brand’s staple ankle silhouette with a range of textures and details inspired by animated action cartoons. Signature woven laces are replaced with red and white-striped cords, along with silver eyelets and ski hooks. Traditional leather uppers are upholstered in black velvet, embellished with white square co-branded tongue patches and silver side zippers lined in bold red fabric. Finally, black TPU silicone soles with lug-sole ridges complete the pair — and add to its punky, subversive look. The style will retail for $150 on Dr. Martens’ website.

Atmos’ Tarik boots feature an array of technical updates and details that bring Dr. Martens’ boots a distinct flair. The Tokyo-based brand, founded by Hommyo Hidefumi, is known for its innovative styles that have become a distinct part of Japan’s streetwear and harajuku communities since 2000. Over twenty years later, the brand has remained innovative with growth into both clothing and sneakers from its vintage sneaker roots. Dr. Martens’ Tarik boots are the brand’s latest collaboration, following successful co-designed drops with Nike, Adidas, Puma and more top athletic brands over the years.
This new pair of shoes marks the second collaboration between Dr. Martens and Atmos, following the duo’s first drop this April. That launch featured updated takes on the brand’s classic black 1461 shoes and Combs Tech boots, complete with purple and red woven laces and seatbelt-like buckled ankle straps. We’re keeping our eyes peeled for a hopeful third drop in the near future that’s equally punky and futuristic.
