Zooey Deschanel attended a “Harold and the Purple Crayon” event held at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. yesterday. Deschanel was accompanied by her co-star for the film Zachary Levi.
In true “Twee” fashion, the “New Girl” star styled a pair of classic ballet flats, a constant staple in the star’s wardrobe. Cute and girly, the style featured high-shine deep purple patent leather uppers that transitioned into almond-shaped toes topped with gold accents and dainty bow detailing.
Additionally, the preppy style included snakeskin-embossed uppers, offering the otherwise ultra-girly silhouette a touch of edge. The flat silhouette was not unlike the ones Deschanel wore to a recent screening of “Harold and the Purple Crayon” held at the Culver Theatre in California.
Ballet flats are currently on the rise, adopted by just about everyone from Elle Fanning to Angelina Jolie. The trend is a polarizing one, first embraced by the public back in 2012 under a new name; Twee. The quirky microtrend is one Deschanel is and has been at the center of for years, coining and honing in on the aesthetic since bursting onto the scene.
The “Yes Man” actress went matchy-matchy, donning a purple A-line dress fixed with playful dark purple velvet bow detailing on the shoulder straps. The garment featured all the usual suspects for Deschanel, including a flared skirt and form-fitted bodice.
When it comes to footwear, Deschanel’s styles are often elegant and quirky. The “500 Days of Summer” star often wears colorful and embellished pumps and flats on the red carpet, hailing from brands including Roger Vivier, Chanel, Jimmy Choo and Charlotte Olympia.
“Harold and the Purple Crayon,” is set to release in early August. The film is an adaptation of the beloved children’s book by Crockett Johnson. The story follows a young boy named Harold who creates a world of adventure with his magical purple crayon.
