Zendaya served next-level sporty chic in custom Loewe tennis ball heels at the Rome photo call for the new Luca Guadagnino film “Challengers” on Monday.
The pièce de résistance of the striking shoes is a miniature tennis ball at the base of the 5-inch stiletto. The pumps also feature a sharp pointed-toe and smooth white leather.
Zendaya, in partnership with her long-time stylist Law Roach, has knocked film press fashion out of the park this year. She’s followed the futuristic and desert-inspired looks for “Dune: Part Two” with glamourous and inventive looks channeling the tennis courts of “Challengers” with a green and white color scheme.
At the Australian premiere of “Challengers” on March 26, Zendaya made another major statement in custom Loewe: sparkly green pointed-toe stilettos and a matching gown with the shadow of a tennis player. Jonathan Anderson, Loewe’s Creative Director, did the costuming for the film.
At the Paris photo call on April 6, she paired a chic checkered green-and-white look with similar white stilettos, sans tennis ball. Later that day, the white heels peeked out from a flowing white gown topped with a chunky diamond tennis necklace.
For the third stop on the “Challengers” press tour, Zendaya and her co-stars, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, and director Luca Guadagnino posed in front of a scenic Roman backdrop at the Hotel Hassler.\
In the new film, which will be released in the United States on April 26, the three actors play tennis stars caught in a lover triangle. Zendaya’s character is a former tennis champion who gets injured early in her career and then coaches her husband (Faist) from mediocrity to superstardom.
Zendaya is a red carpet regular, famous for her bold and unexpected style. Always chic and polished from head to toe, Zendaya has walked the red carpet in everything from voluminous floral gowns to menswear-inspired suits to a futuristic Mugler femme bot suit. Her footwear style follows suit—glamourous, elegant and bold. This year, she’s worn several pairs of Christian Louboutin So Kate pointed-toe pumps in bright colorways, along with several pairs of metallic shoes that play off of her futuristic-themed red carpet looks. She released her Daya by Zendaya clothing and footwear line in 2016, which was recognized as the 2016 Launch of the Year at the FNAAs.
Loewe was founded in Spain in 1846 as a leathermaking collective and now makes high-end men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, and bags. Loewe has been run by creative director Jonathan Anderson since 2013, who brought a playful and surrealist tilt to the luxury brand. The Spanish company’s fall 2023 shoe collection was filled with whimsical and wacky designs including the Petal sandal with a kitten heel that looks like a makeup brush, lacquered “doll” shoes, and a plethora of various balloon shapes. Loewe also designed a simple two-strap sandal with a birthday candle stiletto.
