South African pop star Tyla is in New York City as the fashion industry hurtles towards the 2025 Met Gala. After the performer made her debut at the event last year in a custom dress made of sand by Balmain, she is expected to return to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, celebrating the opening of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
On Saturday night, Tyla was seen heading out of her hotel. She wore a silver matching suit with a low-cut waist and a single-button jacket. The entire suit was printed in a reptile-effect.
For shoes, Tyla went with a style that is familiar to her: a strappy sandal. In particular, she chose Aquazzura‘s Tequila sandal. The shoe is a silver leather silhouette featuring straps that converge at the vamp. Each strap is embellished with small crystals. The toe of the silhouette is an almond shape. The shoe includes a four-inch stiletto heel.
Aquazzura is selling the Tequila sandal for $1,450.
Aquazzura, which is known for strappy heels or shoes featuring cutouts, has another version of its Tequila. The Mini Tequila features smaller crystals and less straps. That style has been notably worn by Blake Lively who chose it to wear to “SNL 50: The Anniversary Special” as well as on the promotional tour for “It Ends With Us.”
Tyla often wears strappy sandals. This has included the DSquared2 Riri heels that lace up to the thigh. She wore them in her “Push 2 Start” music video. In February, she wore another pair of tall strappy sandals by way of Le Silla gladiator heels at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards.
