The members of TLC have been recognized for their effortlessly cool onstage style for decades, and the group didn’t disappoint with their performance on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.” Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas modeled futuristic looks including complementary footwear, a fitting choice to welcome 2025.
The longtime R&B stars were outfitted in ensembles with a modern utilitarian sensibility; a long silver sleeveless garment was worn over fitted black clothing. They also wore furry hats to accessorize the outfits. For part of the night, they layered up in long silver sequined coats, another piece matching the excitement of the occasion.
T-Boz matched her outfit to a pair of boots hailing from a collaboration featured in Rabanne’s SS23 show. Created in partnership with New Rock, Rabanne describes the boots as “a fusion of edgy style and unmatched craftsmanship.” Made of leather and rubber, the shoes feature black laces in front, several buckles along the side and metal hardware details on the sole. The Rabanne x New Rock Silver Boots retail for $1,150.
Chilli, meanwhile, wore a different set of shoes with a similar color scheme. She complemented her outfit with a pair of black boots featuring a close-fitting shaft and unique platform sole. The base of the shoe stood out with a design resembling silver mosaic tiles.
This isn’t the first time New Rock combat boots have been worn on stage by a member of TLC. Shoes from the brand were incorporated when the group performed on the I Love the ’90s Tour, when they also wore Isabela Marant hiking boot sneakers. Stylist Brea Stinston said in 2017, “We have to make sure [the shoes] have grips because they dance so much, and you never know the condition of stages.” Stinson continued, “Another important factor is ankle support, so sneakers will be a high-top and boots will be a midcalf silhouette for ankle support.”
First achieving fame in the 1990s, Watkins, Thomas and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes were three of the hip-hop artists who have made an impact on the footwear world with their fashion choices. For example, those looking to emulate their style might have purchased a pair of Dr. Martens.
