Dsquared2 is currently going viral for a pair of boots that the brand unveiled almost 14 years ago.
The brand’s iconic “Skate Moss” silhouette has garnered attention from fans of the Dsquared2 brand both old and new. White or black, ankle-length or knee-high, the campy boot is made to look like ice skates, equipped with impossibly lofty stiletto heels attached to faux skating blades. Matt leather uppers accompany lace-up closures, intricate stitching and silver hardware, imparting a rugged feel.
The boot’s resurgence in popularity is thanks in part to celebrities like Mariah the Scientist and Julia Fox who recently wore the coveted silhouette. Fox wore them while promoting her upcoming film “Presence” on an episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” which aired on Jan. 21. The silhouette has since become a tangible part of the fashion zeitgeist in 2025, akin to the impact of Maison Margiela’s Tabi style back in 2021 and 2022.
Recognizing the love the shoe has been receiving, Dsquared2 posted a TikTok on Jan. 19 unearthing the archival style modeled by one of the label’s founders identical twins Dean or Dan. Fans took to the comments to ask for the shoe to be rereleased, with one fan writing: “Please bring these back I got adult money now.” Tennis player Naomi Osaka even chimed in writing, “Please bring these back, i’ve been trying to find my size for years.”
The beloved brand hinted at bringing the shoe back in the comments, writing back to the athlete, saying, “Queen for you, we just might!!!”
The shoe debuted during the brand’s fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection, set against the backdrop of winter weather, covered wagons and Western frontiers. Models were clad in leather dusters, maximalist furs and frayed jeans partnered with gaudy ten-gallon hats that fit the theme to a tee. Ready to combat the winter weather, many models stormed down the runway in the “Skate Moss” boot in varying heights and colorways.
Founded in Canada and based in Italy, Dsquared2 was launched in 1995 by identical twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten. The brand is best known for its unique men’s and women’s apparel, cosmetics, footwear and fragrances that veer towards sporty, campy and glamorous motifs.
Back in 2001, Madonna commissioned the twins to design over 150 pieces for her Drowned World Tour and “Don’t Tell Me” music video. Since then, the label has enjoyed widespread recognition from top stars like Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Rita Ora.
