Liza Colón-Zayas chose comfort while making history. “The Bear” star attended the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards held at Peacock Theater on Sunday in Los Angeles, California, wearing a shimmering off the shoulder green gown and footwear that is a departure from what the winners usually wear.
Colón-Zayas became the first Latina to win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role as Tina Marrero in “The Bear.” While she walked the red carpet, the long tail of her gown covered most of her shoes but offered a peek of them, showing that she was wearing pointed-toe flats.
Then once she got on stage to accept her award later in the night, her shoe became more visible, revealing that she was wearing a pair of flats that were set on a small stacked heel, and a strap that wrapped around her ankle and the upper of the shoe.
While most nominees and attendees showed up wearing sky-high platform heels from Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo, the actress wore a pair of seemingly comfortable shoes, that also provided support. She held the train of her dress up high enough to reveal the flat as she walk toward the mic to give her acceptance speech, which she said she didn’t write because she never imagined winning.
The slingback flats were seemingly made of a suede-like material and featured an ankle strap that secured the shoe to her feet, which were likely the most comfortable shoe options of the night.
It was a big night for Colon-Zayas and her “The Bear” castmates. The FX show broke its own record for the most Primetime Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year, beating its own 10-win record from the last Emmys.
Lead actor Jeremy Allen White and supporting actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach won again for their performances in the FX series. Colón-Zayas joined them in the press room for photos, after becoming the first Latina to win the Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy series. She was up against Meryl Streep, Carol Burnett, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James and Hannah Einbinder.
