It’s no secret that Taylor Swift has been dominating the music industry lately as she travels the world on her record-breaking Eras Tour and regularly releases new music — and on top of that packed schedule, she might just be trick-or-treating at your door come Oct. 31.
Per Google Trend’s FreightGeist analytics, Taylor Swift is currently the 22nd most searched Halloween costume in the United States. The superstar is known for her fun and feminine fashion sense, which encompasses outfits she wears in music videos, on the concert stage, to awards shows, and while off-duty socializing. With Swift having been in the spotlight for well over a decade now, fans have a plethora of ensembles to peruse should they choose to curate a Swift costume for Halloween this year.
But a great Halloween costume calls for great shoes — so here are a few footwear suggestions to help bring out your inner Taylor, whether you’re emulating her “Fearless” era or her “Midnights” era.
One of Taylor Swift’s most iconic costumes is also one of her easiest to recreate. She originated this self-effacing look in the music video for her 2013 single “22” — she pairs a sequined T-shirt reading “Not a lot going on at the moment” in large capital letters with black minishorts. In the video, she completes the look with black lace-up ankle booties.
Roughly a decade later, she wears variations of the famous outfit on stage for the Eras Tour — different versions of the shirt read “Who is Taylor Swift anyway? Ew” (a nod to the song) or “I bet you think about me” (a “From the Vault” record). On stage, she rocks a pair of sparkling black loafers bearing the Christian Louboutin logo in front. Her Louboutins are custom made for her, but Betsey Johnson has a similar pair for $99 and Steve Madden offers a $65 style adjacent to Swift’s shoes.
2. Cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs — Leather boots
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s romance took the world by storm last year as the seemingly disparate worlds of football and pop music merged. While Swift certainly keeps a busy itinerary, she can be counted on to support Kelce at his NFL games — and she’ll do so in a stylish Chiefs-inspired ensemble, typically incorporating the color red.
She’s been stepping out in striking boots for recent games; she is a noted fan of Giuseppe Zanotti‘s thigh-high Frannie boot (she’s worn red and black versions); a similar shoe can be found from Steve Madden for $139.99; and ASOS has a comparable currently on sale for $34.50. Pair the boot of your choice with some Kansas City Chiefs merch — be it an oversized T-shirt or Kelce jersey — and the outfit is complete.
3. An onstage Eras Tour outfit — Bejeweled boots
As her song “Bejeweled” off her “Midnights” album tells us, Swift “can still make the whole place shimmer.” Her Eras Tour outfits are certainly evidence of this; she goes through several wardrobe changes throughout her three-hour shows, and most of the looks feature some sort of sparkling feature, whether its sequins or crystals. This applies to her footwear as well, like her deep blue bejeweled boots provided by Christian Louboutin.
Again, her Louboutins are bespoke, but Jessica Simpson offers an adjacent knee-high style currently 25 percent off for $134.25. Additionally, Betsey Johnson has an embellished heeled ankle boot in a sapphire shade — also 25 percent off at the moment at a price of $66.36 via Amazon. Match them with a blue dress with fun fringe detail, and you’ll be the embodiment of “Midnights.”
4. “You Belong With Me” – Sneakers
From the music video for her early hit “You Belong With Me,” Swift’s character known as Junior Jewels wears another iconic outfit. It’s an easy DIY ensemble consisting of pajama pants and a white T-shirt bearing classmate signatures. While she wears this outfit in her bedroom, and perhaps isn’t even wearing shoes, the song features the well-known line “she wears high heels, I wear sneakers.” Round out her girl-next-door outfit with a pair of Chuck Taylor All Stars, Adidas Sambas, Nike Air Force 1s, or another pair of classic white sneakers.
