Tara Reid was appropriately dressed while out in Beverly Hills last night. The actress and producer attended the Los Angeles premiere of the A24 film “Y2K” in an arguably Y2K look. CEO of Hi Happy Films, Reid chose a black jacket featuring leather fringe, a gold tank top, trousers and gold crystal embellished D&G belt. She offset all of the gold with a pair of animal print boots.

The shoes were from Christian Louboutin. They were Cheetah print boots made from calf hair with the print over top. They include a small inset platform. This provides additional height without increasing the pitch of the incline. In addition, the toe of the boot is rounded.

The shoe has a heel of just over four inches. Another key detail is that the collar of the bootie features a wrap like design that includes a gold button embellishment. This isn’t functional though as the boots feature zippers going up the inside of the ankle.

Like all Louboutin shoes, the boots include a lacquered red sole. The initial inspiration for this red sole was a secretary’s red nail polish. It has gone on to become a signature for the brand telegraphing a sense of luxury and quality. Colloquially, Louboutin shoes have sometimes been referred to as “red bottoms,” which is a term that has appeared in music. Cardi B also notably referred to them as “bloody shoes.”

The film “Y2K” follows two high school juniors on the last night of 1999. They crash a New Year’s Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives when Y2K becomes a reality. So Reid choosing Louboutin for a Y2K-themed event was a smart choice. Though the brand opened in 1991 and long found respect within fashion industry circles, it was in the late 90s and through the 2000s that it began to attract mass appeal. This happened most notably with placements on “Sex and the City” which started in 1998. The show helped to cement the legacies of various shoe brands including Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo.

Booties are appropriate for this time of year. Though they can be worn year round, boots and booties are more frequently spotted in the fall and winter months because they provide more coverage to feet when compared to pumps or even the almost bare sandals.
