Sunny Hostin Channels Dorothy in Ruby Mary Janes for ‘The Wiz’ Opening Night

Sunny Hostin entered Oz in a modern version of Dorothy’s red ruby slippers to attend the Broadway opening night of “The Wiz” on Wednesday in New York. “The View” host stepped out in suede ruby Mary Jane style shoes with a semi-rounded pointed-toe and approximately 3-inch stiletto heel.
Hostin is a fan of bold, colorful heels and has been embracing the metallic trend this year. To interview designer Sergio Hudson in February, she strapped on silver platform sandals with a sky-high tapered heel. The night before, at the Sergio Hudson Fall 2024 ready-to-wear show, she wore the same heels in gold. At the premiere of Netflix’s “Lift” in New York in January, she chose shiny gold pointed-toe pumps.
The Yellow Brick Road was star-studded for the Broadway premiere of “The Wiz” revival. Houstin, Common, MC Lyte, Tamron Hall, Ben Platt, Ben Vereen and LaChanze wore their fines emerald, gold and silver looks at the Marquis Theatre. The show marks the first return of the beloved Black musical reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” to Broadway in 40 years.

“The Wiz” is directed by Schele Williams and produced by Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker and stars Nichelle Lewis as Dorothy, Avery Wilson as Scarecrow, Phillip Johnson Richardson as Tinman and Kyle Ramar Freeman as Lion. Wayne Brady takes on the role of The Wiz, and Deborah Cox plays Glinda.
