Selena Gomez started her year going pretty in pink. The actress and star of “Emilia Perez” was in Palm Springs this weekend attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Amongst the events was Variety’s Creative Impact awards and 10 Directors to Watch Brunch.
For that event, Gomez and stylist Erin Walsh went daytime appropriate in a “ladies who lunch” pink Oscar de la Renta dress. The long sleeved piece features a nipped waist and high neck. Gomez also wore a smattering of silver rings on her fingers from Swarovski.
For shoes, Gomez went back to one of 2024’s preferred styles: the slingback. For the brunch specifically, she chose a demure Santoni shoe. Made of patent leather, the style notably includes a large oversized buckle on the toe. It also has a low-cut vamp. The slingback strap itself does not include a buckle, instead it contains elastic like the original Chanel slingbacks from 1957 produced by Maison Massaro.
The shoe sits on a block heel of two inches. It also has a square-toe — square-toe shoes have been slowly cropping up on a variety of stars like Cardi B, largely taking inspiration from the pointe shoes of a ballerina as a part of the longstanding balletcore trend.
In line with other shoes from the brand, the ladylike style sports an orange sole which is a Santoni staple.
Gomez has been wearing quite a number of slingback styles on the “Emilia Perez” tour. For evening events she’s opted for Christian Louboutin’s Hot Chick as a slingback which contains a scalloped detail and a stiletto heel. She’s worn that in red and black. Over the summer she even worn the sharply pointed Versace slingbacks with the brand’s Medusa medallion to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” But way back during the Cannes International Film Festival she had worn a pair of retro-inspired Roger Vivier slingbacks that sported a kitten heel for some day time events.
Slingbacks made an impressive showing at the 2024 Cannes International Film Festival. In addition to brands like Vivier and Louboutin, other labels like Saint Laurent and Christian Dior were being worn.
