Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy is facing some criticism — not just for his politics, but for his unusual shoes.

Duffy, who was confirmed as a member of President Trump‘s cabinet in addition to others like Pam Bondi, has worn a peculiar pair of shoes on several occasions recently. Governor Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire posted a photo of herself alongside Duffy to social media on Feb. 18, where the unique characteristics of his dress shoes could clearly be seen.

The eye-catching set, appearing to be Mezlan Nicos Dress Shoes in the shade Cognac, feature a distinctive lace-up detail not in front like a standard Oxford, but on the side of each shoe, in addition to stitching. The lacing, paired with a worn-in leather look, lends the pair a particularly rustic quality. The shoes can be found on Amazon, marked at a price range of $219.50-$325.

Governor Ayotte’s post prompted a great deal of commentary on Duffy’s shoes, from those who were upset that he worn brown shoes with a blue suit to those who referenced “What are those?” shoe memes. One popular user @dieworkwear, known for critiquing menswear, quoted the governor’s post and wrote on the platform, “These look like the first shoes ever made.” Additional users thought the shoes looked antiquated or were just plain “ugly.”

Many, of course, criticized the former “The Real World” cast member’s ability to effectively do his job. Americans and those outside our borders are increasingly alarmed as a number of catastrophic plane crashes have occurred in recent times, the most recent being a Delta plane crash in Canada, which resulted in several critical injuries but no deaths.

With Trump in office again, there is also a great deal of discussion on tariffs, which he is a major proponent of. Shoe prices were already seen increasing in the month of January.
