It’s a big week for Prince William, who is set to become the first-ever British royal to pay an official visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories with his five-day solo trip to the Middle East.

The Duke of Cambridge, who began his tour through a day’s worth of events with Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, made headlines for speaking at a garden reception at the British Embassy and watching the World Cup match between England and Panama at Hussein’s residence.

Now the father of three is drawing attention for posing at an ancient landmark where Kate Middleton once visited with sister Pippa and father Michael when the family lived in Jordan during her childhood years in the 1980s.

On the second day of his tour, Prince William had a photo op at the Jerash archaeological site, a tourist attraction of Roman city ruins dating back to the first century. A Twitter post shared by Kensington Palace revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge herself had stood on the same site when she was just 4 years old.

Middleton, who is still on maternity leave following the birth of Prince Louis in April, wasn’t present for the historic visit.

“She is very upset that I am coming here without her,” Prince William reportedly said. “Need to come back with the family for this shot.”

For the occasion, the prince wore a slim light navy jacket over a light blue button-up and khaki dress pants, accessorizing with a pair of custom ‘Suez’ sunglasses from L.G.R. He paired the look with dark brown Oxfords — a formality he acknowledged by comparing his look to that of Middleton’s father in the 1984 picture. “Michael’s looking very smart in his flip-flops,” Prince William commented.

After touring the site, the Duke of Cambridge met with young children from the Unicef-supported Makani program to help Syrian refugees, visited a new base for the Quick Reaction Force and spoke with women at the Princess Taghrid Institute’s Dar Na’Mah Center.

He is also scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
