Olivia Rodrigo returned to her grunge era this week, thanks to her latest music video.
Following this month’s release of her hit second album, “Guts,” Rodrigo has now shared the music video for one of its new songs, “Get Him Back!” In the clip, which finds the musician and a team of doppelgängers avoiding flying knives, kitchenware and more before vandalizing cars parked in an abandoned street. For the video, which can now be seen on YouTube, stylist Jared Ellner dressed the singer in a pair of faded, distressed black leather R13 combat boots with rounded toes and calf-high shafts.
The pre-worn-appearing shoes — the brand’s Double Stack style, which retail on its website for $1,395 — featured thick 2-inch stacked black soles with a ridged base, creating a height-boosting finish. Thin laces cinched the pair’s front for a classic combat finish, while R13’s signature orange stitched trim gave the set a dash of punk flair.
Rodrigo’s combat style added a rebellious base to her outfit throughout the video: a white cropped T-shirt, paired with a micro-miniskirt by Charlotte Knowle’s label KNWLS London — the brand’s $300 (was $500) scalloped style, featuring a light pink and orange plaid print with a flounced hem and side laces. The set was elevated by Ellner with gleaming silver rings by Los Angeles-based brand Cold Shoulder, as well as gleaming pink beaded necklaces from Recreo.
The video moment marked Rodrigo’s latest outing in a vintage-inspired — or truly vintage — outfit curated by Ellner. Since July, the stylist-musician pair have made waves this summer for her attire worn while promoting “Guts”, which has included a crystallized Todd Oldham skirt paired with clear mules and a floral slip dress elevated by red slip-on heels from rising female-owned brand Maile.
Where footwear is concerned, Rodrigo often wears pairs that complement her edgy style. Black leather combat and knee-high boots by Dr. Martens, Naked Wolfe and Magda Butrym have proven to be her go-to’s, as well as Vans and Converse sneakers. Rodrigo’s statement footwear choices often include chunky platforms and brogues from labels Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs and T.U.K. On formal occasions, she can be seen in heeled styles by Giuseppe Zanotti, Nicholas Kirkwood, Maile and other high-end brands.
