“Orange Is the New Black” star Dascha Polanco may spend most of her days in prison garb when she’s on the set of the Netflix hit series, but she never misses a chance to glam it up.
When the actress sat down with Footwear News recently to dish on her favorite shoe styles and all things fashion, she revealed that an impressive list of high-end labels have landed shelf space inside her closet.
“I love Jimmy Choo, Ferragamo, Balenciaga, Ruthie Davis and Prada,” Polanco told FN.
Although Jimmy Choo continues to rank high on her list of red-carpet go-to brands, Polanco’s love affair with the luxury label hit a bump in the road last year.
As the story goes: Polanco bought a pair of shoes to wear at the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards but discovered — at the 11th hour, of course — that they just didn’t work with her outfit.
In a crunch, the actress snagged a pair of Jimmy Choo’s Anouk snakeskin pumps in green to wear with a gold dress with iridescent fringe and netted chains.
“So I picked up my [normal shoe] size at the time, which was a size 40,” Polanco explained. “But in the Anouk — because it has such a high arch — you’re supposed to go up one size and I didn’t know that.”
Speaking of famous last words, the actress continued: “So I had to be at an award show on a red carpet with a chain dress — so I could [hardly move] — and shoes that were way too tight [causing] pounding pain in my feet. And it just so happened that [at this particular event] I had to do the most walking I’d ever done at an award show!”
Ouch!
