Natalie Portman paired classic strappy black heeled sandals with a striking Dior outfit for the July 11 premiere of the Apple TV+ series “Lady in the Lake,” set to debut on July 19.
Adapted from the book of the same by Laura Lippman, Portman stars in the series which follows two women whose paths intersect in 1960s Baltimore amid the disappearance of a young girl.
For the show’s premiere held at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, Portman selected a look that was first showcased in Dior’s 2025 cruise show. The sweeping fashion event, which took place in June, was influenced by the culture of Scotland and featured designs by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. Portman’s Scottish-inspired ensemble consisted of black velvet minishorts underneath a strapless structured dress made of intricate beads in a criss-crossing diamond pattern. As was displayed in the cruise show, the dress also includes a black belt buckled around the waist. The stiff A-line skirt featured an inverted V-shaped cutout exposing her black shorts.
Portman also wore glittering stud earrings and added extra glamour to the look with bold eye makeup.

Portman complemented the unique Dior look with a classic wardrobe staple: a pair of strappy black heeled sandals. This specific style included a thin strap beneath the toes and one buckled around the ankle, in addition to diagonal straps across the side of the foot toward the heel. The back of the shoe was enclosed, differentiating it from a mule-style heel. The shoes offered her elevation on the carpet while the dainty and simplistic design easily harmonized with the Dior ensemble, letting the dazzling look take center stage.
Heeled strappy sandals are a popular and versatile footwear choice, especially for formal events in the summertime, with many variations of the style showing up on the ESPYs red carpet this year. Skier Lindsey Vonn, for example, wore a black shoe that strongly resembled Portman’s, and paired them with not one but two dresses throughout the day.
Portman herself wore the same style of shoe when she slipped on silver Dior heels for the “Miss Dior Exhibition — Stories of a Miss” event in Tokyo in June.
