Melania Trump, whose fashion choices have sometimes been the subject of scrutiny in the past, chose a black Versace gown for the occasion; the dress closely resembled Versace’s Medusa ’95 Draped Gown, which retails for $3,990. Fitted at the bodice, the garment included a slit above the knee as well as asymmetrical sleeves, one of which featured Mudusa ’95 hardware.

Trump matched the dress to a pair of traditional black pumps, seemingly a patent leather pair that appeared to be the popular Christian Louboutin So Kate heels. In a typical pump construction, the shoes featured a triangular toe and stiletto heel. This is not her first time wearing a standard black pump like this one. For example, she wore a pair of black Louboutin pumps when she voted and at an election night event in November; for the latter occasion, the shoes from the French brand accompanied a fitted gray blazer and a long matching skirt. And at an October Trump rally at Madison Square Garden that became highly controversial for various speakers making racist and inappropriate remarks, the incoming first lady again wore black pumps, that time with a patterned garment. She introduced her husband at the event.

Trump often opts for a pump, whether black or another color. In another example, she wore gray Manolo Blahnik pumps to accompany a pinstriped Ralph Lauren suit when she appeared at the New York Stock Exchange with her husband in December. The classic feminine shoe style is a trusty silhouette for women in politics.

The Trumps are currently preparing for Donald Trump’s return to the White House later this month, though it is believed Melania will most likely not be living in Washington D.C. full time once she becomes first lady again, as several sources told CNN. She wasn’t often present on the campaign trail and she is already taking a step back from traditional first lady duties, having chosen not to meet with incumbent first lady Jill Biden after the November election. She and Trump share 18-year-old son Barron Trump, who is a student at New York University.
