Margot Robbie set one of the biggest trends of 2023 with Barbiecore and after three months out of the public eye, she’s offering a lesson in making trendy shoes feel classic.
At day 12 of Wimbeldon in London today, she stepped out in a pair of very on-trend square-toe peep-toe heeled mules from celeb-favorite brand Alaïa. The Alaïa 55 mules feature a sculptural two-inch heel and smooth black leather construction.
Paired with oversized black sunglasses and a black-and-white petite shoulder bag from the designer brand, along with a cream polka-dot asymmetrical dress, Robbie’s look is at once classic and modern, without feeling stuck in any particular time.

Peep-toes, mules and square-toes are all major shoe trends of 2024, and here, in the Alaïa 55 mule, Margot Robbie has effortlessly brought them all together in a look that feels rather timeless. Prada and Bottega Veneta also currently sell trendy, sculptural square toe mules, in bold gem-tones. Square-toes never seem to stick in the way that round or pointed-toe styles do, yet they have had their moment in 2019 and, of course, the ’90s.
Peep-toes are a favorite of Robbie’s. Last year, on her buzzy “Barbie” press run, she fully embraced method dressing, wearing pink galore and couture Barbiecore at every occasion, each look completed by custom Manolo Blahnik heels. While a variety of pink and white pointed-toe stiletto pumps were a favorite of the press run, she also wore several pair of peep toe heels, including custom black patent Jada stiletto heels.
Robbie attended the famed tennis championship hand-in-hand with her husband Tom Ackerley. The couple are expecting their first child and the event marked the public debut of the actor’s (tiny) baby bump. They were joined by two other celebrity couples: “Barbie” directors Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, and Hugh Grant and Anna Elizabet Eberstein.
