Lupita Nyong’o is putting her Chanel ambassadorship to work. After being named a face of the brand during Paris Fashion Week, Nyong’o has been appearing on red carpets in a number of Chanel looks. Such was the case again on Sunday night in London. The actress attended the BFI London Film Festival event for her latest film “The Wild Robot” wearing a full Chanel look for the label including a miniature robot purse and the year’s hottest shoe styles.
For footwear, Nyong’o and long time stylist Micaela Erlanger chose one of 2024’s hottest trendiest shoe silhouettes: a mule. The performer’s shoe was silver and made of nappa leather. The slip-on style also included an open toe upper and an almond shaped toe bed. The sole of the shoe is thick, providing extra comfort and a slight edge on height to the wearer. It also includes a thicker stiletto heel, likely of about four inches.
Mules have been a major trend, seemingly only growing in prominence over the past year and a half. Alongside the slingbacks, they are one of the hottest celebrity shoe trends of 2024. Directional fashion icons like Rihanna have been constantly spotted in mules in addition to men like Bad Bunny. During Paris Fashion Week, they were on the front row in a major way with Mugler doing a massive push, outfitting multiple celebrities like Anitta and Laverne Cox in their Fang mule. Other brands like Schiaparelli put mules on the runway, meaning the trend could last through spring 2025.

With her silver mules, Nyong’o wore a tweed suit from Chanel’s fall 2021 haute couture show. While. not vintage, the cream look is archival. Over the relaxed shoe, she wore an oversized silver scarf, that cascaded down to her knees. In addition, she carried a Robot minaudiere purse that was sourced by Erlanger that was released by Chanel in 2017.
