Liza Koshy chose a daring pair of heels to walk on the 96th Academy Awards red carpet in Los Angeles on Sunday. The actress wore a red Marchesa gown with towering 7-inch heels.
While posing on the red carpet, Koshy stumbled and fell backward. During the fall, her glamorous dress lifted slightly to reveal her daring, fire-engine red platform stilettos.
While not the same shade, the glossy patent open-toe style matched her scarlet off-the-shoulder gown designed with sleeves that resembled roses.
Speaking to Oscars ambassador Amelia Dimoldenberg shortly after the incident, she said, “I’m joining a group of legendary women like J.Law, who fell on the carpet.”

Koshy also joins the list of stars who have hit the red carpet in bold Pleaser heels. Lady Gaga, for one, has been sporting towering shoes regularly for years. Other celebrity fans of the brand’s affordable statement shoes include Cynthia Erivo, Gwen Stefani, Kate Beckinsale, Kim Kardashian, Billie Eilish and Addison Rae.
Helen Mirren is also known for wearing towering platform pumps, a style that’s often referred to as “stripper heels,” to elevate her looks on red carpets.
“I used to go and buy my high-heeled shoes on Hollywood Boulevard in the stripper shops,” Mirren told WWD during the 2024 Golden Globes. “I remember they were $39,99. The reason is because you couldn’t get high platforms. And when you hit the red carpet, so many of these beautiful actresses are very tall, and I always felt like a squat, little person amongst them. So I bought myself these 10-inch heels.”
The Oscars 2024, officially known as the 96th Academy Awards, are set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The ceremony will honor movies released in 2023. Jimmy Kimmel will host the event for the fourth time. The nominations include films like “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Poor Things.” Notable nominees for acting categories include Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone, Paul Giamatti, Cillian Murphy and more.
