Katie Holmes is renewing the ballet flats for another season while giving it a new update. The actress was spotted donning a pair of silver ballet flats while walking around in New York City on Tuesday.

The shoes, reflective in a glossy metallic hue, were adorned with a square toe, rounded edges and a front tie strap.

For the rest of her look, Holmes wore a combination of two sweaters layered on top of each other in contrasting black and white colorway — the black sweater was from  Lafayette 148 —, a pair of cherry red pleated corduroy slacks, a mid-length black leather coat and a white knit beanie.

Holmes is known for wearing trendy shoe styles. In December of last year, the star was seen wearing a pair of black Adidas Sambas adorned with the brand’s signature white stripes. The lace-up silhouette was styled with a simple pair of straight-leg blue jeans, a black coat, and a colorful knit scarf. Similarly, in early January, Holmes was spotted walking in a pair of Gucci Horsebit loafers, which she styled with a double-breasted black coat and matching black trousers.

Like Holmes and several other stars, including Gigi Hadid and Hailey Bieber, many consumers favorited the ballet flat and other flat shoes in 2023. According to a recent report from FN, Lyst’s latest Index report found that the Miu Miu kitten heels and Adidas Originals’ Country OG sneakers were 2023’s top-performing shoe purchases from the year’s fourth quarter.

The trend’s origins can be traced back to last September during New York Fashion Week when designer brands like Proenza Schouler and Tory Burch featured the silhouette during the showing of their spring 2024 collections. Since then, several designers have incorporated a ballet flat or similarly designed shoe into their arsenal of available footwear styles to be eagerly purchased by the public.
