Katie Holmes is getting good usage out of one of the year’s biggest footwear trends. The mother and actress, who recently dropped her daughter off to college, slid into a pair of slick black ballet flats on Wednesday night.

The performer hit up a screening of “Blink Twice” in New York City. For the outing, she put on a loose-fitting burgundy jumpsuit. The short-sleeved design was paired with a massive brown leather bucket bag and oversized shades. She also wore a traditional string of pearls and gold hoop hearings.

For her footwear, Holmes returned to shoes she wore just a few months ago. She strapped into a pair of black patent leather ballet flats from Miu Miu. The shoes feature not only a small string bow on the vamp, but also include two straps across each foot, which are grommeted.

It’s little surprise: ballet flats have been a heavily trending silhouette since 2023. The popularity sailed through 2023 and into 2024 with much of the excitement coagulating around styles from Miu Miu as well as Maison Alaia and Mansur Gavriel, among other brands. Holmes wore this exact Miu Miu option back in March when she paired it with a denim jacket and black pants. But just days ago she was spotted in a pair of ballet flats from Yuni Buffa that were made in Italy.

“We’ve seen ballet flats sweep the fashion world for months — from the streets to the runway — with no sign of the trend slowing down as we get into the holiday season,” Bianca Gates, CEO and co-founder of Birdies told FN in 2023. In January, a market director at Net-a-Porter said that Alaia’s ballet flat was “still reigning supreme” as an “it” shoe.

This isn’t new business for Holmes though who has long been a fan of flats in various iterations. She’s been spotted in a variety of ballet flats as well as sneakers — in December she was seen in a pair of Adidas Sambas. Those have also been a popular style.
