Kaia Gerber Relaxes in Black Leather Ballet Flat Shoes in New York City

Sleek and chic is the way to go if Kaia Gerber‘s outfit is any indication.
The model was spotted today in New York City, walking around in a pair of black leather ballet flats.
The shoes are from the brand Mansur Gavriel. Named the Dream Ballerina, the shoe features a knotted bow on the vamp as well as a grosgrain trim. The trim is one of the distinctive aspects of this relatively simple design.
The shoe includes a low stacked heel. It retails for $395.

Ballet flats were a major trend throughout 2023. Brands like The Row, Maison Alaia, 3.1 Philip Lim, Staud and Proenza Schouler were all showing them. Sometimes they were mesh, at other points they had higher vamps and some (like those at Paul Andrew) were scrunched — men’s brands have also been showing the style. Net-a-Porter staff identified Alaia’s flat as a red-ticket item going out of 2023 and into 2024. This year, even Gucci put the ballet flat on its runway as Sabato de Sarno included it in his 2025 cruise show for the Italian brand.
Of course, celebrities have been wearing the shoes with abandon. Both Gigi Hadid and Katie Holmes have worn Mansur Gavriel’s version previously.
It all comes at the same time as the Amy Winehouse biopic, “Back to Black,” has rolled out. In the late 2000s and in the early 2010s, Winehouse was a face of the ballet flat trend.
Gerber wore hers with wide legged trousers and a midriff-baring light cardigan. It was a classic model off-duty look. She’s been wearing ballet flats often over the last six months, sometimes swapping them from Mary Janes, another low style.
