Janelle James, aka Principal Ava Coleman on “Abbot Elementary,” made a fashion statement at the Emmys on Sept. 15 in a ruffled red dress from Marchesa and strappy black heeled sandals.
James may have lost in the category of outstanding supporting actress in a comedy for her role on the ABC show created by Quinta Brunson, but she won on the red carpet. For the celebratory evening, the actress selected a one-strap gown which narrowed at the waist and widened into a voluminous skirt that grazed the carpet.
The fabric gathered in rose-like formations at the hip and shoulder, adding intricate dimension to the ensemble. The dress also featured a slit above the knee, exposing her leg and footwear.
James went with strappy black sandals to accent the striking red dress. She opted to wear the Jimmy Choo ‘Metz’ Sandals to the event. The shoes featured narrow black straps which crossed in an X-formation across the toes. Another thin strap encircled the ankle, contributing a sense of security to the footwear and adding to the minimalist design. Meanwhile, the sole featured a subtle square outline in front and a heel in back offered additional height.
James loves to select a stylish floor-length gown for an awards show red carpet. She wore a fitted black and silver gown by Christian Siriano at the NAACP Image Awards in 2023; the same year, she wore a lacy black Rodarte gown with floral embellishments on the skirt for the SAG Awards.
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, takes place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The award show is held to celebrate the best of television, awarding major players in the industry for their talents. Some popular shows nominated for awards this year include “Fellow Travelers,” “Fargo,” “Baby Reindeer,” “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” “Griselda” and “True Detective: Night Country.”
