The gang was back together again ahead of the Grammy’s. On Saturday night, “Insecure” stars Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji reunited at the fourth annual Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala. That event raises money and and advocacy for Black designers in the retail business. The dress code for the red carpet is “Black Tie, Black Designer” meaning any black tie look designed by a Black designer is appropriate.
Orji functioned as a co-host for the event alongside founder Aurora James. For the gig, Orji wore a custom green velvet Vicnate dress. The dress included an asymmetrical bust as well as pockets. It was styled by Olivia Beckingham.
With the dress, the actress wore a pair of sandals that appear to be suede Giuseppe Zanotti Intrigo strap heels. The shoes are an open-toe mule. The style is built on a pointed sole. They are a slip-on style. Mules have been popular over the past year or so. In particular, Gianvito Rossi’s Elle mule was a popular style. Jennifer Lopez just wore that shoe with multiple looks over one weekend last month.
While Orji was hosting, Rae was on hand to to be honored. The Sephora Beauty Grant was awarded to Sienna Naturals co-founders Hannah Diop and Rae. For the event, Rae was styled by Wouri Vice. She wore a red draped silk minidress. For shoes. shewent patent leather, also opting for a strappy style.
Fashion designer Aurora James’ Fifteen Percent Pledge was founded in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd, asking companies to reflect the Black community by dedicating 15 percent of their shelf space to Black-owned brands. This year’s gala, cohosted by Fifteen Percent Pledge chairwoman and Skims founding partner Emma Grede, raised $3 million for Black-owned businesses.
