While there may be some criticism about the appearance Dwyane Wade‘s new statue, Gabrielle Union and the rest of the Wade family didn’t let that stop them from celebrating this past weekend.

The Miami Heat honored the former NBA star by unveiling a statue of him at a ceremony which took place outside the Kaseya Center in Miami on Oct. 27. The statue represents the time he spent playing for the team and makes him the first Heat player to receive such an honor outside the arena. “This is crazy,” Wade said after the statue was unveiled. “I wanted to feel this. Life goes by so fast, and it’s very rare that we get to feel things, because we’re always off to the next thing. I wanted to feel this, man. I wanted to look at it.”

To the event, Union wore a chocolate brown mini dress with a plunging neckline, and paired it with what seemed like Saint Laurent’s Gippy Leather Kitten-Heel slide sandals in black. As far as other accessories go, she also wore a brown handbag and a necklace with small hoop earrings.

To kick off the celebrations, Wade and his family also attended the 003 Statues Are Forever Party With FWRD at Queen Miami Beach on Friday. The event was more formal and he was accompanied by his children Zaya Wade, Zaire Wade and Kaavia Wade, as well as other members of their family. Union wore a black Oséree sequin-embellished striped maxi dress and paired with black open-toed sandals.

The Wades had even more to celebrate as Union’s birthday is on Oct. 29. The actress had a surprise gathering with friends and family during the weekend, to which she arrived in a sporty brown and white dress and paired it with matching Autry Medalist trainers.

The shoes can be purchased for $215 on Nordstrom.

The Wade family takes fashion seriously, and she is often spotted front row at Fashion Week events and wearing coordinated outfits with the basketball legend.
